Article: Avoid a Data Disaster on the Road

Hoboken, New Jersey - (Vocus) October, 2013—Road trips for busy business people rely on access to data in some shape or form. In an article from eMazzanti Technologies, an IT support and computer consultant for the Hoboken, New Jersey and NYC areas, five tips are discussed that can make a business trip more productive and less frustrating.

“Access to data on the road is vital these days,” said Jennifer Mazzanti, president, eMazzanti Technologies. “The way you travel with data or the way you stay connected with data from the home office can make or break a business trip.”

Reliable information can make or break your next trip, whether it’s the ability to cultivate a business contact, ensure accurate company records or keep a business traveler safe. Almost without exception, PC data is priceless since access is everything. If data is lost or is not available, most business travelers are going to have a bad day.

Here are some other considerations that underscore the importance of data for road warriors:

Travelers are relying on accurate information to ensure their security according to a survey by American Express. In an age when terrorism is a persistent threat to air travel, safety is a very real concern.

Most companies have strict policies regarding the use of a corporate travel agent and company charge card, according to a Runzheimer International poll. In other words, meticulous record-keeping is now more essential than ever. The ability to easily capture and retrieve data is very important.

Some 25% of all business travelers miss having access to their internal company systems, British market research firm Continental Research recently concluded. It’s not hard to guess why: having the latest information keeps them productive.

For business travelers, information is more than power. It’s the thing that powers a business trip. Here are five tips to make traveling and access to data a productive experience.

1.       Start every trip with a sync.

Making sure mobile devices and PC are on the same page is pretty easy. Generally, a business traveler just plugs in devices and the computer does the rest. Syncing one PC to another isn’t as straightforward and can be tricky to connect and operate. That said learning how to sync a desktop computer with a laptop used for a business trip can be well worth the trouble.

2.    Don’t trust a computer.

Memory sticks that plug into a laptop, such as those from manufacturer DiskOnKey, are absolutely essential to the integrity of data. Andrew Steele, a media consultant to charities and nonprofits in Great Britain, routinely does a double backup. It recently saved his trip. “I had a laptop power supply fail,” Steele recalls. “So even when the laptop battery was finally exhausted, I could carry on without embarrassment on borrowed machines.”

3.    Stay in touch with the office.

There are several useful remote connectivity applications that let a business person connect to a computer or network from afar, including For example: LogMeIn and Microsoft Windows’s Remote Desktop Connection. These connectivity options are excellent because they allow a person to “catch up” on any information may have been forgotten. The biggest downside with these programs is that they tend to be slow — particularly with a dial-up connection — making large data downloads impractical. But if a traveler couldn’t sync up before his trip, they can be a real lifesaver.
