eMazzanti Showcased in New Microsoft “Ask Uncle Bob” Small Business Pilot

Hoboken, New Jersey—July 2, 2010—Microsoft believes that when it comes to addressing computer-related questions for small businesses, “Uncle Bob” has the answers. Or at least that’s the intended purpose of the new pilot social media program under the same name in which eMazzanti Technologies has been invited to participate as an IT expert.

“We are inviting customers to visit our Facebook page and to read stories about how other small and mid-sized customers are working with our partners to get benefits of Microsoft technology,” said Mario Juarez, Core Infrastructure Marketing Team, Microsoft.

eMazzanti’s role in the new Facebook site takes the form of an audio clip where Carl Mazzanti, chief operating officer, shares his perspective on how new technology can help companies make money.

The key question Mazzanti answers is: Can spending money on IT today really save any money? The IT guru answers with a resounding “yes!” and goes on to make four additional points:

  • The kinds of computer capabilities machines are capable of today weren’t even thought of 5 or 10 years ago. If a business is just getting by with an old computer that is a few years old, they may be missing out on a significant boost in productivity.
  • Spending a few hundred dollars on a new computer with current software is a fraction of the cost of hiring and training a new employee.
  • The latest hardware and software may not only help a business avoid adding expensive employees, but may actually reduce head count through productivity gains.
  • Many of the complex set up, support and maintenance needs of a computer are now completely automated in new operating systems like Windows 7 and applications like Office 2010.

Why Ask Uncle Bob?

Research Microsoft conducted with small and medium business IT decision makers showed that customers want to learn how technology can help them, but they’re busy and don’t always know where to start. Owners want to hear more from Microsoft, and the concept of a character who knows technology but speaks in plain language tested well. Thus, an “Ask Uncle Bob” character was born.

Though Uncle Bob is not an actual person, the character is the embodiment of the collective wisdom of Microsoft and dedicated partners on the front lines of customer relationships. The concept of a small business “answer-man” of sorts is the brainchild of Microsoft’s Core Infrastructure Marketing team. However, the purpose for the “Ask Uncle Bob” character is very real: it’s meant as a problem-solving resource where real-world small business technology stories are posted several times a week which, in turn, solicit responses and questions from site visitors.
