eMazzanti Technologies Urges Disaster Recovery Planning to Prepare

Hurricane forecasters advise business owners to prepare in spite of lighter than normal season predictions

Hoboken, New Jersey - (Vocus) May 28, 2015 – eMazzanti Technologies, a New York City area IT consultant and managed services provider, commented today on predictions for the 2015 hurricane season urging business leaders and owners to prepare for unpredictable hurricane land falls regardless of the forecast.

“Disaster recovery planning is a must. E-Commerce companies, or any business with customer data won’t survive if they aren’t back up and running quickly following a disaster,” stated Jennifer Mazzanti, President, eMazzanti Technologies. “Preparation is key to business survival regardless of the forecast. Hurricanes are just one of many disaster scenarios that can put the unprepared out of business.”

In spite of a lighter than average hurricane forecast for 2015, forecasters are also urging preparation. An accuweather.com article dated May 15, 2015 informs readers of this year’s hurricane predictions, also stating that only one named storm, Hurricane Arthur, hit the U.S. last year, causing more economic than physical damage.

“But, I don’t want to diminish the potential for anywhere along the coast to be hit by a hurricane or a tropical storm this year,” AccuWeather Expert Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski commented.

2015 Hurricane Predictions

Each year experts predict the total number of hurricanes and the number of major storms. For 2015, AccuWeather.com’s long-range forecasting team anticipates:

  • 8 named tropical storms
  • 4 hurricanes
  • 1 major hurricane
  • 2-3 Landfalls

These numbers are slightly less than 2014 predictions, but atmospheric conditions are similar. Without exception, however, forecasters are warning the population to not be complacent. The consensus is that it only takes one Hurricane coming ashore to cause a major disaster, and you should be prepared.

Disasters are Unpredictable

A lighter than normal hurricane season doesn’t mean there will be no disasters. According to accuweather.com, Hurricane Andrew leveled much of South Florida after a calm summer in 1992, and became one of the most disastrous hurricanes on record.

“Just because this season’s numbers are low, it doesn’t mean that people should let their guard down,” Kottlowski went on to say. “It only takes one storm to cause a lot of destruction.”

Disaster Recovery Planning

eMazzanti advises hundreds of businesses along the East Coast on business continuity and disaster recovery planning, counselling business owners to implement a comprehensive disaster recovery plan and test it regularly. CEO, Carl Mazzanti recently shared six disaster recovery tips with NYC businesses.

“Many businesses, and even cloud services providers have no idea if their disaster recovery plan will work because they don’t take the time to test it,” stated Carl Mazzanti, CEO, eMazzanti Technologies.

A recent article on eMazzanti’s website cites some interesting business disaster recovery statistics:

  • Natural disasters have impacted more than 30% of all small businesses in the USA.
  • Hurricanes are by far the most destructive force causing power failure, flooding, customer loss, and the closure of many businesses.
  • Between 60 and 70 percent of all problems that disrupt business are due to internal malfunctions of hardware or software, or human errors.

Business disaster recovery rates:

  • Only 35 percent of SMBs have a comprehensive disaster recovery plan in place.
  • Companies that aren’t able to resume operations within ten days are not likely to survive.
  • 80 percent of businesses suffering a major disaster go out of business in three years.
  • The survival rate for companies without a disaster recovery plan is less than 10%.
