“Selecting an IT partner is challenging in the new mobile IT landscape. With more than a decade of IT experience and demonstrated leadership in mobile device integration, we understand what customers really want in terms of computer support,” said Carl Mazzanti, CEO, eMazzanti Technologies. “These are 25 questions to help you select the best possible IT services company. We have incorporated these customer-driven expectations into everything we do.”

Sample questions from “How to Select an IT Support Company

The first question a small business should ask is: Am I happy? It means: Is the business satisfied with the basic IT solution it currently has or not? It usually doesn’t matter if the present solution is internal or if IT is already outsourced.

Very small businesses often get by with someone inside the company having the additional responsibility as the technology person. This may suffice for a short period of time but eventually, a build or buy decision is reached. The “Am I happy?” question is then an excellent place to start discovering the best answer for the future. “The next 24 questions serve as a business and technology guide for outsourcing IT services,” noted Mazzanti. For example:

 • Do they offer predictable IT costs that include unlimited IT support for a fixed, monthly fee?

It’s easy to compare typical IT consultant hourly rates by making a few calls. However, what’s more difficult to identify is how many hours a project or repair takes. If you elect to hire an IT consultant by the hour, they should be able to give you a cost range or examples so you’re not completely surprised by the invoice. The best way to hire an IT professional is on a flat monthly fee, all-you-can-eat basis. This approach generates predictable IT costs and no surprises.

 • Are they recognized by major OEMs as a top-tier IT provider?

If software and hardware manufacturers like Microsoft, HP or Xerox think highly of the IT consultant, then you can bet they are competent and well-trained. Look for credentials that include Gold Certified Partner, Mid-Market Specialist, Premier Partner, Partner of The Year, etc. Numerous IT partner recognition awards indicate a high level of competency.

Sample mobile question:

• Are they up-to-date on BYOD, mobile operating systems, and apps for business?

The IT landscape is tilting towards mobility and consistency across every device. The IT service company should be a leader in implementing mobile and tablet solutions for business.
