Headlines are rampant with cyber attacks against city governments across the US with two major attacks against Atlanta, GA and Baltimore, MD taking over news cycles in 2018 and 2019 respectively. In fact, over 45% of cities report experiencing cyber attacks at least once daily, some even facing attacks nearly hourly.
What’s more concerning for the landscape of cybersecurity for city governments is that nearly 60% of these organizations don’t know who is attacking them. And it’s no wonder that government organizations are a valuable target for cyber attack for three main reasons: collection and storage of citizen data, growing dependence on technology, and limited resources.
